I designed Aurisante in our typography classes during my exchange in Portugal. Our task was to design a font which will be a part of the Raúl Lino in Abrantes project, by the authors Inês Serrano and Anabela Moreira with the participation of professor Regina Delfino. This investigation was proposed to the Centre for Technology, Restoration and Art Enhancement – Techn&Art, from IPT, whose objective is to inventory and enhance the architectural heritage of this architect in the city of Abrantes.
The typeface is based on elements that can be found on one of Raul Lino’s monuments and on the Assembleia de Abrantes house (windows from this building were used for the grid for designing the letters). The width and height of the letters comes from the narrow windows and tower like parts of the buildings, with steep roofs. The basic element is this curved line which I took from the monument, and can also be found in some decorative elements in Lino’s buildings.
After designing the typeface we also had to design a logo (using out own typeface) that could later be used for the Raúl Lino in Abrantes project.
"The Jury unanimously considered the work to be of high quality having distinguished it with an honourable mention." - Inês Serrano
